After auditing the current website, we found many usability issues that ultimately led to less sales. We did some research and interviews based on the contact information collected from previous orders to better understand the habits of the customers. In order to streamline the purchase process, based on our findings, we created a simplified checkout flow that allows customers to reach the payment page with a single click, asks only for critical bits of information and allows for placing an order as a guest. After we launched the new website and we had some fresh usage data, we adviced the owners to dispose of the coupon field that’s placed prominently on the checkout page and to think of other ways to offer discounts. By simply being there, the coupon box primed users to leave the website in search of a discount code, leading to many lost sales.
